This friendly and supportive course empowers parents and carers to strengthen their own reading and writing skills while gaining practical tools to nurture children’s literacy at home.

Through engaging group discussions, storytelling exercises, writing activities, and expert guidance, you will boost your own confidence and discover simple, effective ways to make reading a fun, everyday part of family life.

No exams, no pressure-just a welcoming space to learn, grow, and build a reading-friendly home together.

What you will Learn

This informal learning programme, while not offering accredited units, focuses on key literacy skills such as phonics, storytelling, writing for meaning, and spelling. It encourages reading confidence and aims to create supportive home environments for literacy development. Learners take part in skills checks, group discussions, and reading tasks, with ongoing written activities, tutor feedback, self-assessment, and goal setting-all contributing to the review and development of individual learning plans.
