Adult Maths and English Assessment
English and maths are important skills in life as they help you gain further qualifications at college and achieve a better job. But did you know that there is an alternative to GCSE maths and English to help you on your journey to live, work and learn successfully?
Maybe you struggled with maths and English at school and didn’t achieve a GCSE grade C or grade 4; you might want to change your career, are looking for a promotion at work or want to enrol on a further course at college or university.* This is where Functional Skills can help.
Functional Skills give you practical English and maths skills to help you in everyday life and at work. They can help build your confidence as you progress with your learning. All courses lead to a nationally recognised qualification from Entry Level to Level 2.
- Functional Skills are aimed at anyone over the age of 19 who doesn’t have a GCSE grade C or 4 in English and maths.
You will be assessed by our tutors when you enrol to ensure that you are placed in the right class at the right level for you. You don’t need any prior qualifications.
- Courses start in September or January and end in the following June. There may be the opportunity to join the course after January to help improve your confidence and offer you a taster of the course before starting your qualification.
Functional Skills qualifications are funded by the Government so there will be no costs to pay. However attendance is closely monitored to ensure students make progress and are on track to achieve their qualification.
The main enrolment period is August/September, although assessments are run from September to December. At enrolment you will need to attend an assessment session with our friendly tutors to ensure you are enrolled on the right course. This will ensure that you start at the right level for you.
