Course Overview

Mathematical skills are essential in every career and training pathway. If you need a GCSE maths qualification to progress into employment or further education, this course is designed for you.

Led by experienced and supportive staff, you will take part in engaging and practical maths activities tailored to your individual needs and abilities. Our innovative teaching methods will help you build confidence, develop key skills, and stay motivated throughout your learning journey.

Whether you’re returning to education or looking to boost your qualifications, this course will support you in achieving your goals.

We offer both daytime and evening classes to provide flexibility and accommodate different schedules.

Course Requirements

This course is open to all adults.

– If you have a GCSE Maths grade 3 or a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths qualification achieved within the last five years, you will be invited to an interview to assess your suitability. You will not need to complete an initial assessment.

– If you have older qualifications or no formal maths qualifications, you will be asked to complete a short written assessment to determine your current numeracy level.

Please note: In most cases, we are unable to offer a resit if you already hold a GCSE Maths grade 4 or above.

What you will Learn

This course will help you build confidence and competence in key areas of maths, including:

Number – understanding and working with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percentages
Algebra – solving equations, using formulas, and identifying patterns
Geometry – exploring shapes, space, and measures
Statistics – interpreting data, charts, and graphs

You will be placed on either the Foundation or Higher level pathway, depending on your current skills and learning needs. Your tutor will guide you to the level that best supports your progress and goals.

Assessment

You will complete three exams as part of your final assessment:

– One non-calculator paper
– Two calculator papers

These exams are scheduled to take place during the May/June exam period.
