Course Overview

This T Level in Science is a two-year Level 3 programme equivalent to three A Levels. It combines classroom-based learning with a substantial industry placement of at least 315 hours, giving students real workplace experience. The qualification has been developed with employers to ensure students develop the knowledge and skills needed for careers in the science sector.

Course Requirements

5 GCSE’s, including English, science and maths at Grade 4 or above.

What you will Learn

You will gain a broad understanding of the science sector including biology, chemistry and physics principles such as cell biology, microbiology, chemical reactions, electricity and waves. You will also develop practical laboratory skills, health and safety awareness, and learn about ethical considerations in scientific research. In addition, you will build transferable skills including communication, problem-solving, research and data analysis.

Assessment

Assessment includes two written examinations and an employer set project for the core component, alongside a practical project for the occupational specialism. Students also complete an industry placement of at least 315 hours (45 days)

Progression

Progression to skilled employment, higher apprenticeships (Level 4-5), or degree programmes such as biomedical science, applied science, environmental science or food science.

Career Options

Careers include laboratory technician, biomedical scientist, medical laboratory assistant, food safety analyst, or roles within the wider STEM sector.

Mandatory Units

Core Component: units include biological molecules, cell structure, microbiology, immunology, chemical reactions, electricity, waves, gas laws, and laboratory safety.

Occupational Specialisms: Laboratory Science or Food Science.
