Course Overview

This Level 2 vocational qualification (equivalent to three GCSEs) provides a broad introduction to applied science, covering biology, chemistry and physics in practical contexts. It is designed for learners who prefer a hands-on, coursework-based approach and want to develop scientific knowledge alongside practical skills for further study or employment.

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at grade 3 and above, including English and maths.

What you will Learn

You will develop a broad understanding of scientific principles across biology, chemistry and physics, alongside practical laboratory skills. You will learn how to plan investigations, collect and analyse data, and apply science to real-world contexts such as health, the environment and energy. You will also build transferable skills including teamwork, communication, problem-solving and independent learning.

Assessment

Assessment is through a combination of internally assessed coursework and external examinations. Approximately two-thirds of the course is coursework including practical investigations, reports and assignments, with two external exams in Principles of Science and Scientific Skills.

Progression

Students can progress to Level 3 qualifications such as BTEC National Applied Science, T Levels, or science-related apprenticeships.

Career Options

Laboratory technician, science technician, healthcare support roles, environmental science roles, or progression into careers such as forensic science, biomedical science or engineering.
