Course Overview

This is a ‘First Steps’ programme which gives learners a taste of different vocational sectors such as construction crafts, gas and plumbing, multi-skills, motor vehicle. It is perfect for learners who have not yet made their mind up about which subject they would like to study and to boost their English and maths skills. On successful completion of the course, learners can progress to a Level 1 qualification in their chosen sector.

4 GCSE’s at Grade 1 or above including English and maths



What you will Learn

The qualification provides a pathway into a range of sectors giving learners the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours associated with different job roles before deciding which career progression they wish to choose.

Learners will study GCSE maths and English alongside their qualification.

There are a number of enrichment activities throughout the year including:

– Enterprise
– Community Projects
– Sporting activities
– Work Experience

Assessment

Assessment consists of both performance evidence and knowledge evidence.

Performance evidence through direct observation and oral questioning.

Knowledge through research and completion of assignments.

Progression

Learner may progress onto a Level 1 vocational programme

Supported Internship

Apprenticeship programme

Employment

Career Options

Successful students who started the course with low esteem and self confidence have progressed to Level 1 or Level 2 programmes at the college.

Mandatory Units

The mandatory units for this course are:

– Personal action planning, Presentation Skills, Developing Employability Skills.

Optional units for this course could include:

– Skills for gaining employment
– Rights and responsibilities of citizenship
– Sector related projects
