Course Overview

Want to get started in the hospitality industry? You might want to work as a chef, kitchen assistant, housekeeper, waitress or hotel receptionist. Whatever area you’re interested in, we have an introductory Certificate in Hospitality to suit you.

A Certificate in Hospitality is for anyone new to hospitality work. You probably won’t have any experience. You might still be at school or college.

You don’t need a job or work placement to take these qualifications – but if you have one you can often learn on the job.

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 2 or above (including maths and English Language).

What you will Learn

You can choose your focus as you go, perhaps in serving, cooking, reception work, housekeeping or administration.

To gain an NVQ, you need to show you’ve got a particular set of skills.

Assessment

NVQs are assessed at work or in a simulated workplace. For each unit your assessor watches and asks questions as you perform a task, or looks at a portfolio of work that you’ve built as formal evidence of your learning. Then they confirm you’ve got the skills to do the job well.

Progression

From here you can progress onto the Level 2 Hospitiality course, or seek to gain an Apprenticeship
