Course Overview

Studying a T level in Building Service Engineering (Electrotechnical) will prepare you for an exciting career within the construction industry. Designed by employers, a T level combines practical and theoretical learning experiences with real-life industry experience. It also supports progression on to university, into employment or on to a higher-level degree apprenticeship. You spend 80% of your time at college and 20% on 45-day industry placement to experience having a real career while you continue your studies. It will also give you head starting the jobs market and will look great on your CV or personal statement. The course will introduce you to all the latest technology being implemented and used in industry with a focus on sustainability and its impact on the environment. You will be taught by industry specialists and will be given opportunities to visit working sites to support your development and knowledge.

Course Requirements

5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including maths, English Language and Science.

What you will Learn

The course will introduce you to all the latest technology being implemented and used in industry with a focus on sustainability and its impact on the environment. you will develop many transferable skills, applicable across the broad sector of building services.

Assessment

You will be assessed on the core elements by completing an employer set project and a written exam paper in each of the 2 years, you will also be graded on your completion of work placement by your placement provider. For practical trade competence(electrical) you will carry out an end point assessment, synoptic test with an external assessor in a fixed period that meets industrial standards and time scale.

Progression

Progression pathways start with electrician, electrical engineering technician, engineering maintenance technician, building service engineer, engineering construction technician.

Career Options

The T level is designed to open pathways into all aspects of construction it carries UCAS points so you can progress on to university or move to higher level apprentice routes or move into self-employment.

Mandatory Units

Core competences include health and safety in the workplace, science and materials, construction design principles, digital engineering techniques, sustainability, and the impact on the environment, as well as modern methods of construction.

Specialisms include practical competence development in electrotechnical installation, fault finding, system design, and safe isolation. These skills will provide you with the knowledge and behaviours necessary to achieve threshold competence in the electrical specialism. All T levels are aligned with apprentice standards and are transferable should you choose to pursue that pathway.
