Course Overview

Our new Level 4 Higher Technical Qualification in Manufacturing Engineering, introduces a range of engineering fundamentals and business concepts, equipping students to improve existing manufacturing processes. You will be exposed to management training and how to apply it to the production environment to become a multifaceted production manager.

Course Requirements

Whilst applications are usually considered on an individual basis, offers are usually based on a requirement to have:

64 UCAS points from either:

– A Level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant subject
– GCE A Levels
– An Access to higher Education Diploma in a relevant subject

Applicants should have GCSEs grade C/4 or above in maths and English.

Mature students with relevant work experience and/or professional qualifications are welcome to apply, and may be invited to interview.

What you will Learn

As you progress through our modules, you will develop an understanding of engineering in different contexts, and learn about production engineering for manufacturing, as well as how to undertake quality and process improvement. Students will broaden their understanding of design, maths and product design, learning how these are applied in practice.

Examination of historical, theoretical and ethical positions in response to engineering design, will develop your knowledge of manufacturing engineering. This is also achieved by considering the relationship between traditional skills and developing technologies and being aware of the creative process of engineering design.


Coursework and Assignments: Coursework and assignments are common assessment tools. Students are given specific projects or tasks related to their coursework, and they are evaluated on their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems.

Practical Work: Practical laboratory sessions are a crucial part of an electrical engineering program. Students may be assessed on their ability to conduct experiments, analyse data, and draw conclusions from their findings.

Reports and Technical Writing: Students may be required to write technical reports based on their laboratory work or projects. These reports assess their ability to communicate technical information effectively.

Presentations: Students may be asked to give presentations on engineering topics, projects, or case studies. This assesses their communication and presentation skills, as well as their understanding of the subject matter.


On attainment at Level 4, students may choose to progress to the Level 5 HND and subsequently complete professional qualifications and/or a level 6 top-up degree, in a relevant area, such as:
