Course Overview

This starter course is based on the areas of electrical and plumbing vocations and is designed to give you the basic knowledge and skills to complete small projects and repairs around your home.

Course Requirements

Participants are not required to possess any previous knowledge or expertise. We welcome individuals with a genuine enthusiasm for the subject and a willingness to actively engage and contribute.

What you will Learn

Course aims
Develop basic plumbing and electrical skills
Develop an understanding of plumbing/electrical tasks such as; identifying tools and equipment, replacing basic plumbing fittings, safe isolation and basic electrical components.

Assessment

No formal assessments.
Lots of practical work supervised by your assessor.

Progression

Level 1 Award in Plumbing or Electrical Installation.

Mandatory Units

There are no set units to this course but you can expect to work on the following areas:
Perform safe isolation on electrical circuits.
Replace various items in a circuit such as: a plug, a switch, and a socket outlet.
Isolating a section of pipework and replacing basic fixtures.
Joint both coper and plastic pipework using compression fittings and push fit.
Remove a radiator from a system then replace and reinstate the pressure in the system.
Unblock waste pipes and remove and clean.
