Meet Our Apprentices: Lucy McKenna

by india

For National Apprenticeship Week 2022, we’re showcasing some of our apprentices to celebrate their achievements and future career prospects that have been influenced by studying an apprenticeship. We spoke to apprentice Lucy McKenna about her experience:

What have you gained and learned from your apprenticeship?

I have gained many valuable skills from my apprenticeship and have learnt how to communicate and work with different people. My communication skills and confidence levels have definitely improved, and I have learnt skills across so many different aspects of the business from Admin, Marketing, HR and Office Management.

Why did you choose to study an apprenticeship?

I knew I wanted to do an apprenticeship as I knew I didn’t want to go to university and sit at lectures every day. I decided to do an apprenticeship because the idea of gaining a qualification and valuable skills along with a salary really appealed to me.

“Apprenticeships have helped me learn a considerable amount, not just about the technicalities of HR but also about myself as a person.”

How did you balance work and study?

I have allocated study time of half a day every week, this enables me to complete my college assignments which helps keeps the balance between my work and study.

Whats next in the future for you?

The next step for me is to go into full time employment and continue to gain knowledge and useful skills from my peers with the possibility to do more training or a higher level qualification in the future.
