Course Overview
This programme provides young people with their first steps into a Hair and Beauty course at the college. It is perfect for learners who would like to have weekly vocational classes, alongside development of their employability and interpersonal skills, to prepare them for future employment.
The course also provides young people with the opportunity to boost their English and maths skills and prepare them for further study.
On successful completion of the course, learners can progress to a Level 1 qualification in their chosen sector.
Course Requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade 1 or above, including English and Mathematics.
What you will Learn
The qualification provides a pathway into Hair and Beauty, giving learners the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours associated with different job roles within the sector. Learners will study GCSE maths and English alongside their qualification.
There are a number of enrichment activities throughout the year including:
- Enterprise competitions
- Community projects
- Wellness and healthy living activities
- Work Experience
Assessment
Assessment consists of both performance evidence and knowledge evidence. Performance evidence through direct observation and oral questioning. Knowledge through research and completion of assignments. English and maths will be assessed through exams.
Progression
Students may progress onto a Level 1 vocational programme
Apprenticeship programme
Employment
Progression onto a Pre-Supported or Supported Internship (16-24 learners with a current EHCP only)

Level 1 and Level 2 programmes at the college

Employment in the Hairdressing sector
Employment in the Beauty sector
